The Netherlands - Lisse and Keukenhof Gardens (near Amsterdam)
For many people, exploring the flower fields of Holland is a definite bucket-list item! The tulip and hyacinth fields are truly spectacular with their endless rainbow of colors of flowers in bloom. You can take a drive (or bicycle) ride on what’s called The Flower Road (Map below) for the best opportunities to see the different fields. Tulip field hunting can be a ton of fun and the pictures are unbelievable! Be sure you check the seasons before planning your trip as tulips have a very short window of blooming and it changes from year to year (usually late March to mid May). We personally rented a car and drove through the flower fields, stopping whenever we wanted to walk around, and later drove to Keukenhof Gardens for a visit.
Things to See and Do:
1. Keukenhof Gardens - The world’s largest garden with over 7 million bulbs and 800 varieties of tulips covering 70 acres in Holland. For the best experience, get tickets in advance and go early in the day to avoid the crowds. The gardens are huge with shops, art/flower exhibits, a petting zoo, a windmill where you can go to the top for a view overlooking the tulip fields, a canal cruise where you can get up close to the flower fields, water fountains, playgrounds, and of course, endless amounts of gorgeously displayed, fragrant flowers! You can easily spend 2-4 hours getting lost in the gardens and seeing all the beautiful sights. Overall, it is truly remarkable with spectacular sights and is a must-do if you're in Amsterdam in the Spring!

Things to Know Before You Go:
It is almost impossible to time the season for the “perfect” day and time to go to both Lisse and Keukenhof to see all the flowers. The earlier in the season you go, the better luck you may have with finding flower fields in Lisse that have not been cut/harvested, but the flowers in Keukenhof Gardens may not have bloomed fully yet. If you go too late, obviously, they may all be gone or harvested. We went the last week in April and it was awesome for both, but each year is different!
You are not supposed to walk within the tulip rows or touch or pick them. You can get great shots at the edges of the fields though!
If you rent a bicycle, it is great for the flower road, but you will have to park it outside of Keukenhof Gardens and walk within the gardens.
Packing - What To Wear:
Most likely if you are in Lisse and Keukenhof, it is during the tulip season! It may be a little cold, and if you're bicycling, be sure to wear something comfortable!
To Eat and Try:
Herring, Cheese Wedges, or Strawberries and Cream in a cup for snacks at the Keukenhof Gardens
Tulips or Bulbs (But check the rules on what you can bring into your home country upon your return first)
Recommended to take a day trip with a “home base” in Amsterdam.
To Get Around:
Bus or Tour Bus to the Towns (they can take you to all the best places, but there may be a lot of people in your pictures, and you are at the liberty of their scheduled itinerary)
Rent Car (means you can hunt for flower fields at your own pace - but finding parking can be challenging)
Rent Bicycles - A much more authentic Dutch experience, and probably the easiest way to see and access the flower fields for pictures and definitely one of the most scenic rides you can find.
