Bangkok, Thailand - Wat Pho

Wat Pho, also known as the Temple of the Reclining Buddah, is located in Bangkok south of the Grand Palace, and is considered to be one of the oldest temples in the city, with over 1,000 buddah statues. This was one of my favorite places to visit because of the beautiful buildings and architecture around the temple complex. Ironically, our guide told us that architecture was a struggle for the people that built this temple, and that the reclining buddah did not fit in the structure so they had to make a hole in the roof to accomodate the size difference. I also loved the tall, ornate pillars known as chedis, and thought it was fascinating how different cultures including European and Chinese influenced the architectural design throughout history within the complex. The temple also houses a school of Thai medicine and is considered the birthplace of the traditional Thai massage which is still taught and practiced at the temple.
