Smash Cakes
Our sweet friend Jeannie, who runs an awesome blog Amongst Stringfields (check it out!), is an incredible photographer and did such an amazing job with Margaux's Smash Cake photos!
We planned to wait until Margaux's first birthday to let her taste cake, but when we were in London at Peggy Porschen Cakes, we felt it was wrong to deny her a taste, so she got a bite a few weeks early, but believe it or not, she spit it right out. (Crazy, I know!) So we tried again at her cake smash (a week before her birthday) and she was still not a fan. We had to hide blueberries inside the cake for her to even touch it. And then she really hated having icing on her hands.
On her actual birthday, we had a smash cake at the party, but let me just say I would not do that again. Ha, I made the mistake of letting her sit on the ground with the cake while I kneeled beside her. She was already running out of energy by the end of the party and I had two prior warnings that she didn't like cake, but rookie mom me, picturing this darling moment at her first birthday where she tries cake and loves it, goes for round three with the cake tasting. Well, it should come as no surprise that she wanted nothing to do with it, fussed at the idea of tasting it, and then stepped/crawled across it right into my lap. Welp, that's what I get it for pushing it, a dress covered in cake. So, I have learned my lesson for any future kids - cake smash ahead of time for the pictures, and if and only if they like it, a bite at the party.
